Miss Sophie was a Just Friends member of Nassau County Council on Aging's Fernandina Beach Senior Life Center. Her smile would light up the room, and would encourage others to do the same. She is missed each and every day...xo

Absolutely beautiful, you have my most sincere condolences to you and your family. It's been a pleasure getting to know and love your mom and getting to know you and your sisters.

Sophie was my greatest neighbor! She shared her daughter with me for many years … inspiring me as a single mom! Me and my kids miss her dearly !

Loved Sophie,, we had many good times in her basement growing up.. I always enjoyed being around Sophie.

Sophie was such a delightful touchstone for me as we shared a common bond— love of sweets, for all things Polish and the NFL- although we didn’t agree on the team. We also shared a love and respect for her daughter Terri and son in law Andy, who lovingly aided her in the transition to Florida and cared for her with understanding and grace. I will miss picking up little Polish treats, nail polish and warm socks whenever I prepared for a trip to North Florida. She was a force to be reckoned with and a delight to be around. Rest well Sophie!

Sophie was one of the most loving, kind and funniest ladies I knew. We spent quite a few nights sitting and drinking cocktails while telling stories and laughing. I was so happy to have had her in my life!❤️

2024-08-13

Sophie Marie Zmudzinski, 94, of Fernandina Beach, Florida found eternal peace on August 13, 2024.

Born in 1930 to Theresa Kierkowski and Chester Lipinski of Oakland, Pennsylvania, she spent 88 years of her life in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she married James Zmudzinski and raised four daughters. Sophie worked as a cook and server in the Carrick High School cafeteria for 15 years before retiring and moving to Fernandina Beach, Florida in 2018.

Fun loving “Sophie Mae” as she was affectionately called by her peers, would light up a room with her brilliant smile. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the Italian Club in Pittsburgh and the senior center in Fernandina Beach. Dancing, bingo, music, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers also brought her much joy and pleasure.

Sophie was predeceased by her husband, James, and her three sisters, Helen, Dorothy, and Irene. She leaves behind her four daughters, Sharon (Greg), Michele (Jim), Terri (Andy), and Susie (John), four grandchildren, Jennifer (Jayson), Ryan, Alexandra (Kevin), Nicholas (Angie), and two great grandchildren Aiden and Kennedy as well as many grand pets.

A private service will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she will be laid to rest and reunited with her husband.
