Sara was always a strong but fun contender at the Bridge table. I will miss her at Yappy Hour and at her great Haloween parties. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew her

Always a smile. Always a laugh. I’ve known that lady for a long time and I will miss her.

Sara and Bob placed high value on their family, their digs, and good food and wine. The only way to have outstanding dinners in Tifton was to import the wine and become a gourmet chef…both of which they did I have a mental picture of Sara with long hsndlef net in her hand and tall rubber waders on her feet cleaning out the two-tiered cleverly engineered Cou pond to keep it both working and beautiful. I so admired Sara for her independence and finding new friends and new challenges at Amelia.i still use nany of her recipes
Sara Wilkerson Wight
2025-02-22
Sara Wilkerson Wight, 88, of Amelia Island, Florida passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at her home.
Born February 6, 1937, to the late Alice Mussette Powers and William Marvin Wilkerson, she grew up in Greenwood, South Carolina. After high school she attended Stetson College and then The University of South Carolina graduating with a degree in biology. She married Robert “Bob” Pratt Wight in 1962.
Sara and Bob were stationed in Germany where they welcomed the first of their two children, Robert Byron Wight, into their family. Alice Cecelia Wight Cole was born in Atlanta while Bob was pursuing a fellowship in cardiology. The family moved to Tifton, Georgia where both Sara and Bob were active in their community.
Sara was an accomplished tennis player and horsewoman. Sara was always a competitor, enjoying bridge and competing against her grandchildren in every possible word game. She loved the beach and eventually made it her home. Her many dachshunds were her great passion, and they all adored her. She loved good food (and was an excellent cook), good company (if Sara was laughing, you were, too) and good wine!
She is predeceased by her husband, Bob. In addition to her children, she is survived by Rob’s partner, Tina and Alicia’s husband, Glenn. She has three grandsons, Robert, Harrison and Alexander.
She will be interred next to Bob at the Amelia Island Chapel Columbarium. Donations may be made in her name to the Barnabas Center, barnabasnassau.org, or the Nassau Humane Society, nassauhumane.org.
