Robert M. Fisher

2021-05-22

Robert Malcolm Fisher, age 86 of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the Warner Center for Caring.

As was said by a friend, "Many people pass through our lives but few with the power or ability to change them. Bob was one of them."

Robert Malcolm Fisher was born March 12, 1935 in Akron, Ohio to Sherrill LoisTaylor and Archie Kenneth Fisher. He was pre-deceased by his cherished wife, Sandra Elizabeth Hales.

From Admiral Farragut Academy to University of Florida where he earned a degree in Journalism, he used his imagination, education and skill to craft a career that lead him from the deck of the USS Forrestal in the US Navy, to newspapers, to Martin Marietta, and eventually to an executive position with JC Penny.

After leaving JC Penny headquarters in Dallas, Texas, Bob retired to an historic home in Savannah, Georgia and eventually to Amelia Island, Florida. Wherever he and Sandra lived, they created unique homes and gardens. Their constant companions were their dogs. In Savannah and here on Amelia Island, supporting the work of the Humane Society has been his passion.

A man for all seasons, Bob was an ardent fan of the Gators, a lover of opera and a collector of British military memorabilia. He was an eternal student of history, from Ancient Egypt and Rome to WW II. The current political arena was also something he followed closely. He was never shy about expressing his carefully researched opinions.

Robert believed in a life of possibilities. He made dreams come true, from someone whose education was mysteriously paid for...to co-workers whose careers were nurtured...to a family that now has a home. He used what he earned and learned to invest in a better future.

Bob's last days were spent in the caring, loving company of Community Hospice and Palliative Care, Warner Center. Special gratitude is extended to some of the unsung treasures of our Island: the Nassau County Emergency Services, Baptist Nassau Hospital and Ackerman Cancer Center.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Nassau Humane Society, 639 Airport Road, Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034 in honor of a fur person you love.

At Bob’s express wish, no services have been planned
