Our fondest memories of Keith include his incredible BBQ skills, his role as the best man at our wedding, and that unmistakable sound of his phone going off! We’ll always cherish the way he looked at his grandchildren, filled with love and pride. Rest in peace, dear friend, until we meet again. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.

Robert "Keith" Cumberland
2025-02-07
Robert Keith Cumberland, 59, was called home to the Lord on February 7, 2025, in Fernandina Beach, Florida, with his beloved wife of 38 years, Marie Cumberland, by his side.
Born on August 30, 1965, to Susie Hix and Jerry Cumberland, Keith was raised by his loving grandparents, Robert and Lou Dean Peak, who played an instrumental role in his upbringing. He was also blessed to have George Hix, his devoted stepfather, who helped shape him into the man he became.
Keith met his soulmate, Marie, at the age of 13, and they were married on his birthday, August 30, 1986. They spent the majority of their lives in Memphis, Tennessee, where they raised their family. In Memphis, Keith was the proud owner of a letterpress company and enjoyed participating in the Memphis in May BBQ competitions. Weeknights were often spent cheering on his children at sporting events, while Sundays were reserved for NASCAR, smoking meat and spending time with family and friends.
Keith later followed his brother Ashley to Florida, where he eventually settled and never truly left, eventually moving his family later that year. In Florida, he became a dedicated volleyball dad, a member of the American Legion and continued his career as a letterpress man.
Keith was a loving and devoted husband, father, papal, brother, uncle and friend. His humor and wit were ever-present, often joking about moving to an island surrounded by beautiful women. Little did he know, God had a sense of humor and blessed him with three biological daughters, two adopted daughters, and even three female dogs that he pretended not to love, but surely did. As Keith entered heaven’s gates, we imagine that his furry companions and family members were waiting for him with open arms.
He is reunited in heaven with his mother Susie, biological father Jerry and Stepfather George, brothers Scott and Jason and several cousins that went too soon.
Keith leaves behind his loving wife, Nellie Marie Cumberland of Yulee, Florida; five daughters: Jennifer Hedrick, mother of Johnathan and George Hedrick; Elizabeth McSwain, mother of Carson McSwain; Brittany Stanford, mother of Maya Susie Stanford; Phebe Cumberland, and Jaydee Lynne Roberts; and three men he gained as sons: Seth Langston, Chad McSwain, and Cory Stanford; his brother, Ashley Cumberland; his stepbrother, and stepsister Corey Cumberland, Elise Cumberland and his stepmother, Mary Cumberland.
Keith was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Yulee, Florida, where he had been an active member for the past few years.
A mass will be held on March 17th (St Patrick’s Day) at 10:30 at St Francis Catholic church in Yulee Fl, followed by a Celebration of Life at The Cumberland home. The family invites all who knew Keith to join in celebrating his life, love and the many wonderful memories he leaves behind. We will be providing Ribs and Pappys Bbq sauce, although they won’t be Keith ribs the cooks promise to due them justice!
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Francis Catholic Church or a charity of your choice in Keith’s memory.
