Orville Louis Saunders, Jr.

2021-08-25

Orville Louis Saunders, Jr., age 68 of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Baptist Medical Center.
He was born in Fernandina Beach, Florida to the late Orville Louis Saunders, Sr. and Kathryn Cox Saunders. He was a lifelong resident, graduating from Fernandina Beach High School in 1971 and continued his education at Tallahassee Community College and Lively Technical College.
Mr. Saunders was employed at Camden County, Georgia Solid Waste as the Assistant Landfill Director.
He was a diehard Florida State fan, going so far as founding the Seminole Boosters Club here in Fernandina Beach. He also was a member of the Jaycees and Optimist Club.
In his earlier years, Mr. Saunders was a director of the Royal Ambassadors and was a Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church. He worked with the youth and enjoyed going to camp as a chaperone for many years. Orville always enjoyed having the youth over for Bible Study, food, fun and games. He would always say “if they are here with us, they aren’t getting into too much trouble”. He also enjoyed coaching Pop Warner and Little League, still being referred to as Coach by the players.
He loved being outside hunting, fishing, working in his yard and spending time in the mountains when he could. Mr. Saunders could often be found firing up the grill and barbequing for his friends and family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those who had a need.
His family said lovingly of him that he, “Always believed his way of doing things was the best way.”

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his twin brothers, Donald and David Saunders.

He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Patricia Sapp Saunders of Fernandina Beach, Florida; his sons, Orville Louis Saunders III and his wife Meagan, Teddy Saunders both of Fernandina Beach, Florida; grandson, Zachary Saunders of Fernandina Beach, Florida; brother, Wayne Saunders and his wife Bonita also of Fernandina Beach, Florida and many extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be set for a later date.
