Nora Freeman Thomas

Nora Freeman Thomas, 86, of Fernandina Beach, passed away peacefully at her home on February 13, 2020. Born in Nassauville, FL on October 10, 1933, she was a lifetime resident of Fernandina Beach. She was the fifth of seven children born to the late Emmett Maxwell and Nettie Little Freeman.
She completed Massey Business College in Jacksonville, Florida after which she was an Administrative Assistant at Rayonier. She was later a full-time homemaker following the birth of her first child. As a child, she attended First Baptist Church where she continued as a faithful lifelong member. There she served more than 40 years in Preschool Sunday School, many years in the Bereavement Ministry and was involved in various other areas of the church as well. Nora was known for her quiet demeanor and for being a thoughtful and loyal friend. Nora�s family was important to her and she especially treasured spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and Nana.
Survivors include her children, Brenda McAllister (Guy), Jerry Thomas (Nancy), Tracey Winton (Steve); grandchildren, Hannah McAllister, David McAllister, Megan Thomas, Sarah Thomas, James Thomas, Amelia (Tyler) Edwards and Racheal (Justin) Ham; two great-granddaughters; sister, Sarah Arnold (Wesley) and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Vernon Lee (Jack) Thomas who passed away in 2006 and siblings Hazel Edwards, Leo Freeman, Powell Freeman, Lonnie Freeman, and Ruby Weeks.
Nora�s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers and friends who faithfully assisted her over the last several years and recent months. Their service has been invaluable to us.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 16 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach with Pastor Shad Goltz officiating.
Mrs. Thomas will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund, 1600 S. 8th Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034 or Cat�s Angels, 709 S. 8th Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.

Aunt Nora was a sweet and quiet lady. I have many childhood memories of her. I know she is in the arms of Jesus.
