Marylyn Elizabeth Gordon
2023-07-25
Marylyn Elizabeth Gordon passed away peacefully on July 25, 2023 at the age of 86. Born on January 5, 1937 in Ambler, Pennsylvania, Marylyn was the only child of the late Carl and Myrtle Gorton. She graduated at the top of her class at Ambler High School in 1954. After graduating with a B.S. in Education from Cedar Crest College in 1958, Marylyn taught first grade at Blue Bell Elementary in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. As a member of Oak Terrace Country Club (now known as Talamore), she would often be seen heading to the links in her robin’s egg blue VW convertible, top down and her golf clubs peeking out the back.
In the summer of 1960, she was introduced to the love of her life, Charles “Tuck” Gordon, and they were married a few months later. Together they welcomed three children who remember their mother as a loving person who always encouraged them to pursue their goals. Tuck’s career took them to many homes through the northeast where Marylyn became the consummate homemaker and an active member and officer of the PTA. Eventually the family settled in Flemington, New Jersey where they made a lasting home for 24 years.
With her love for accounting and attention to detail, Marylyn managed the family’s rental property investments located in Vermont and Florida. When her children left the nest, she enjoyed helping others as a physical therapy assistant.
In 1994, Marylyn and Tuck retired to their happy place on Amelia Island, Florida. As a member of the Amelia Island Club, Marylyn joined the esteemed Bogie Babes women's golf group. Aside from being a competitive “nine holer” and a fierce Mahjong player, Marylyn had many other hobbies including watercolor painting, cooking, entertaining, bird watching, collecting objet d’art, fishing, nurturing orchids, rescuing animals, and traveling. She was supremely passionate about horse racing and baseball, particularly the Philadelphia Phillies.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Tuck, her three children, Tripp (Susan), Holly, and Kristin (Fred), her four grandchildren, Caleb, Carter, Kyle and Abrianna, one step-grandchild, Kelley, and Marylyn’s beloved dog, Honey.
Marylyn lived a life well lived until a stroke in 2020. While she lost her ability to speak, with Tuck by her side as her caregiver, she worked hard everyday to regain her speech.
She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. As she drives off into the sunset in her blue VW convertible, she gives us a little wave and a wink in the rearview mirror.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in the name of Marylyn Gordon to the Amelia Plantation Chapel at ameliachapel.com or the Warner Center for Caring at communityhospice.com/give.
