Mary Jane Madden

2025-02-17

On Monday the 17th of February, 2025, Mary “Jane” Madden, age 74 passed away at her home in Fernandina Beach, FL. She was a devoted spouse to Bill Inglee for 41 years, a loving mother to two sons, and a doting grandmother to three grandchildren.

Born on December 20, 1950 in the Brookline neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA to Robert Joseph Madden and Elizabeth Reed Madden. Her father, a respected Treasury Agent, passed away in 1985. Bob was a dedicated father and grandfather who raised his three daughters, Jane, Julie, and Betsy, after their mother passed away when Jane was five. Jane is survived by her older sister Betsy Madden. Her younger sister, Julie Madden, passed away on March 29, 2024. Jane loved both her sisters deeply. Jane and her sisters were raised by their father and all became successful professionals.

A proud Penn State graduate in 1972, Jane also earned two Master’s degrees in education from George Mason University. She worked for Hyatt Regency Hotels early in her career but cherished her time as an English teacher at Mt Vernon High School in Fairfax County, VA. She adored her students, who reciprocated her affection.

Despite her successful career, Jane excelled most as a loving mother to her sons, Reed and Corey. They were her top priority, and she deserves much credit for the men they are today, always shouldering the family's biggest responsibilities.

Jane, a loving wife, will be deeply missed by Bill her husband of over forty years. Their cherished shared experiences will always keep her memory alive. Jane was also blessed with a beautiful daughter-in-law, Kelly, and three cherished grandchildren: Nolan (4), Lily (2), and Mack (6 months). They affectionately called her "Gigi".

Jane was an exceptional and devoted friend, known for her outgoing nature and incredible sense of humor. She derived immense joy from spending time with her family and friends, prioritizing these relationships and personal connections over all else. In retirement, Jane and her husband moved to Amelia Island, Florida, where they purchased a beach home that became a focal point for gatherings with loved ones. This home, affectionately referred to as “Jane’s Beach”, epitomized her welcoming spirit. Surrounded by sun, sand, and cherished companions, she created an inviting atmosphere for all who visited.

Jane is also survived by several cousins and other family members. There will be no services in Florida or Virginia but there will be a Celebration of Life on Amelia Island as well as in the Mount Vernon Virginia, area for her family and friends in the near future.
