2024-01-07

Mark Edward Gleason, 60, of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away on 1/7/24 after a long illness. Mark was born in Geneva, NY on October 25th, 1963, where he grew up and graduated from Waterloo High School Class of 1982. He worked his way through college as a Resident Assistant while studying finance at SUNY Brockport. He was also a ROTC distinguished military graduate. He earned his law degree at Wake Forest University while working as a resident director. He was commissioned in the US Army as a Captain and served as a US Army JAG Defense Attorney, defending soldiers all over the southeastern United States. For the past 18 years, Mark has been counsel at the Navy Office of General Counsel at Kings Bay Trident Refit Facility.
Mark married Lisa (Scheer) on August 13th1994, in Atlanta, GA where they started their adventurous life together. After several years in Atlanta they moved to Leonardtown, Maryland where their children Gavin (23) and Gabby (20) were born. Mark’s biggest joys in life were his wife and children. He immersed himself in being the best husband and father he could be by being present in all aspects of their lives. He introduced sports and many activities to his family throughout his life. As Gavin’s volunteer basketball coach, they won 3 YBA Championships and one Middle School Championship. Gavin, Gabby, and Mark also did Karate together for years, and Mark earned his Black Belt. He loved everything sports and got his family on board to be hometown Jaguar Fans when they moved to Florida in 2005. Mark and his family created many great memories going to NFL Games, NBA Games, concerts, traveling, fishing, boating, and spending time with extended family and friends.
He loved the beach and living on Amelia Island. He always found ways to give back to his community through volunteering, such as serving on the City of Fernandina Beach Board of Adjustments, coaching, and community service needs. Mark was a great husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend to anyone he met.
Mark is predeceased by his father Henry E. Gleason and mother Doris K. Gleason. Mark is survived by his wife Lisa, children Gavin and Gabby, his sister Christine Maher (Michael), sister Karen Caraccilo (Dominic), stepbrother Steven (Carolyn) and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life will be held on January 15th 11:00 am at “The Oaks” at Oak Marsh Omni Amelia Island Resort (enter main gate) 39 Beach Lagoon Rd. Fernandina Beach Florida (overflow parking across street) We would love for people to share stories or memories of Mark.
