John Zealy Cooper

2020-02-11

John Zealy Cooper, Jr., 81, of Fernandina Beach passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by his family on Monday, February 10, 2020.

Born and raised in Jacksonville, he was a son of the late John Zealy Cooper, Sr. and Edna Simmons Cooper. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, Class of 1956.

After high school, John joined the U. S. Air Force and served honorably. He continued to serve his country in the Florida Air National Guard.

Johns life trade was as an Electrician and Lineman but he went on to do high voltage underground cable splicing. His work took him all over the United States, including Hawaii. He received his 60 year pin from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers just last year.

While he enjoyed his work and travelling, he did not like being away his family whom he loved very much.

He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Ruth; a daughter, Chris (Mark) Carney; a son, Jeff (Nancy) Blacker and an adopted son, Mark Cooper; his sister, Francis Davis; his grandchildren, Julie Brazil, Jamie Blacker and Heather Hamlin; two great grandchildren, Conner and Cameron Brazil and three nieces, Sharon Clark, Kathy McErlean, Pat Chalker and Jody Hough; three nephews, Steve, Frank and John Breden, Michael and Alvin Davis as well as his much loved dog, Buddy.

A service to remember and celebrate Johns life will be held Friday, February 14, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.

The family asks that John be remembered by contributions, in his name, to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Ruth and Chris- Still cant believe it but know Johnny is in Heaven eating anything he wants and jumping for joy as he is no longer in pain. I will miss my best patient who let me torture him to death during his rehab. He will always be with you in your heart as well as there as your guardian angel.
