Farrell Stuart Mashburn
2024-10-06
Farrell Stuart Mashburn (77) of Yulee, FL was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on October 6, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 27, 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia to Melvin Mashburn and Edna Louise Mashburn. He was the middle child of his four siblings, all of whom were raised by his single mother.
After highschool, he began working at First National Bank and quickly moved on to First Financial where he worked in sales. While working in banking, he met the love of his life: Karen Dale Mashburn. The two married in 1971 and had two children, Kim and Shellie, whom they raised in Conyers, GA.
His children have fond memories of traveling, camping, and water skiing growing up. A die-hard Falcons fan, Farrell was no stranger to doing the “dirty bird” in the stands as he cheered on his favorite team every football season. But he didn’t just dance during football season, he enjoyed dancing and singing at most family gatherings and outings with friends. He also loved fast cars and luxury automobiles, and would later purchase his dream car: a silver convertible Corvette.
In the 1980’s, Farrell became a General Contractor and built homes in and around the Atlanta area. After his success in construction, he decided to go into business with one of his life-long friends, John Collins, at a company named Data Services – which would later become Intercept.
After his early retirement in 2004, Farrell and Karen decided to move to one of their favorite vacation spots: Amelia Island, Fl. Always the avid golfer, Farrell and Karen joined the Amelia Island Golf Club and spent many years of their retirement traveling, competing in golf tournaments, and enjoying time with each other and their friends.
Their passion for golf led them to The Villages, FL in 2014 where they spent the next 10 years of their lives together. In 2012, Farrell introduced his wife to a 2-month-old Havanese named Snickers. Although Snickers was a gift for his wife, it became clear early on that Farrell loved his Havanese as much as Karen.
Despite their happiness, Karen and Farrell never could quite shake their love for “The Island,” and in 2024 the couple moved back to Yulee, FL. After the death of his beloved wife on September 3, 2024, Farrell was notably heartbroken but continued to maintain his daily activities the best that he could.
Farrell is preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Karen Mashburn; his beautiful mother Louise Mashburn; and his siblings Raymond Mashburn and Bruce Mashburn. He is survived by his brother William “Billy” Mashburn and his sister, Sharon Dover; his children, Kim Whittemore and son-in-law Freddie Studdard, Shellie Mashburn and daughter-in-law Amanda Mashburn; grandchildren, Ashley Whittemore, Brandon Whittemore, Gentry Mashburn, and Reece Mashburn; great grandchildren, Jayce Whittemore, Chloe Mashburn, Landyn Mashburn, Owen Adams, Logan Whittemore and Elizabeth Gray.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Oxley Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or give online at support.communityhospice.com.
