Evelyn A. Capobianco

Evelyn A. Capobianco, 90 of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away on Monday, January 31, 2025 at the Warner Center for Caring. Born on December 3, 1934 in Long Island City, Queens, New York to the late Arthur Harold Kriska and Anna Mary Kriska, nee Seeback, she grew up in Astoria, Queens, New York. Evelyn graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in 1953 and after graduation, married Ferdinand (Fred) Capobianco later that year.

The couple made their first home in the Bronx and later moved to Babylon, Long Island, New York where they raised six children. Her children remember her as a kind, loving mother who always encouraged them to pursue their goals. After retirement, the couple relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida and later to Walterboro, SC. They were married for 53 years. After Ferdinand’s passing in 2006, Evelyn relocated to Ithaca, New York and finally to Fernandina in 2020.

Evelyn was a well-rounded individual who worked both in and outside the home. She was a talented sales person who enjoyed helping young women select fashion ensembles in the Juniors department of Abraham and Straus department stores. As an avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching all sports and playing Tennis, Golf and Bowling. Evelyn was an outstanding cook who delighted her family and guests with scrumptious meals from every type of international cuisine. Other hobbies included sewing, needlework, playing cards and painting. She also loved to travel.

Evelyn leaves behind her children, Georgia Capobianco, Eva Capobianco, Patricia Meigel, Frederick Capobianco, Arthur Capobianco and Christopher Capobianco. Also surviving her are ten grandchildren, Eric Schiavone, Justin Schiavone, Jessica Austin, Evelyn Travis, Jason (JJ) Travis, Joshua Travis, Tina Donovan, Paige Capobianco, Sarah Capobianco and Scott Capobianco; as well as six great-grandchildren, Barrett Donovan, Dennis Michael, Aaron and Jacob Travis, Amanda Raye Schiavone and Brooke Travis. They were the light of her world and the joy of her life.

Her memory will also live on as a loving mother-in-law to David Butler, Elizabeth Schneider, Robert Meigel, Karen Capobianco and Mary Capobianco. Moreover, she will be deeply missed by her beloved brothers and sister, Joseph Kriska, Barbara Tiseo and Robert Kriska to whom she was almost a second mother, showering them with unconditional love. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her dear brothers, Arthur and Richard Kriska.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Mission in Yulee, Florida.

The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at Oxley Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

She will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
