Condolences:

Life with you was good. I will always love you and miss you.

The Cottons

You couldn't ask for a more pleasant next door neighbor than Pat and David. The kids loved watching David put his bird feed out and his "sun tea." We enjoyed our conversations about the neighborhood raccoons and occasional painted buntings that came by. He was always so pleasant and kind. A good one was lost but we will always remember him.

I was not a student of Mr. DiGenti, however, when my mother passed, he pulled me aside one day and asked me how I was doing. He didn't have generic words of condolences but instead there was genuine concern for me and my wellbeing after such a loss. I have never forgotten that and ever since I have tried to do the same for others. His concern was such a bright light during a tough time. I was sad to read that he that he has passed, but glad to see so many others recognize how truly caring he was! I hope the same care and concern was returned to him ten fold before he passed and that he knew how much he was appreciated! :)

Mr. D, I only had the honor of having you as a teacher for one year in school yet I have memories inside your class that will last me a lifetime. From the time I broke a chair leaning back in it to just getting life lessons and advice from you. I can't thank you enough for being one of the best teachers in the world anyone could ever ask for. Thank you. I hope that his family and friends get through this difficult time together. He was such a amazing person.

David DiGenti

2024-07-17

The Boston Red Sox lost one of their biggest fans on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. David DiGenti passed away at home with his wife Pat by his side, after a brief battle with cancer. David was 76 years old, born on October 4, 1947, in Lawrence, MA, the son of Frank John DiGenti and Emily Arcidiacono DiGenti.

David grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and earned a Bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University. After a career in the food and beverage industry, David returned to University of North Florida and earned his teaching certificate and a Masters in Education.

David first taught at Emma Love Hardee Elementary School. He then went on to Fernandina Beach High School for the next 20 years where hundreds of young people he taught referred to him as Mr. D. David had a lot of love in his heart, especially for animals, music, and reading. He also loved to travel, and especially enjoyed traveling to Maine with Pat in the summer.

David was predeceased by both his parents and grandparents, but is survived by his loving spouse of 47 years Pat Howell DiGenti, his brother Victor DiGenti (Evanne) and their two sons Greg (Claire) and Brian (Joy), and his sister Patty DiGenti Wager (Bob) and their children Cheryl Ous (Ed) and their children Nicole (Trey) and Emily, and Patty’s son Frank Burr (Martha).

David will be missed by his 14 nieces and nephews, his extended family and friends near and far. A private celebration of his life is planned. If you’d like to honor David, play catch with your kids or feed the birds or rescue a cat or dog.

David would love that.
