Danita "Dee" Botts, 87, of Fernandina Beach passed away Wednesday afternoon October 30, 2024 at Baptist Medical Center Nassau Community Hospice.
Born May 20, 1937 in Wesson, MS she was the daughter of the late Dan C Box, Sr. and Odie Mae (Shows) Box. She graduated valedictorian from Wesson High School and was a Collette at CoLin Junior College.
She married Michael G. Lusk Sr. of Wesson, MS in 1955. They moved to Baton Rouge, LA where she raised 2 children. In 1976, she married Andrew (Mickey) Stauder and relocated to the New Orleans area where she began a 30 year career in accounting.
Upon Mickey's passing in 2004, Danita moved to Fernandina Beach, FL. Affectionately known as Dee, she was active in the Newcomer's Club where she made lifelong friends and met her next husband Gene Botts. They were married in 2008 and enjoyed 6 wonderful years traveling the country until his passing.
Dee enjoyed playing weekly Mahjong with her special friends, bird watching in her backyard pond and was an avid sports fan. Danita (Dee, NeNe) was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who always had time to listen. Her gifts were many and she will be missed by all who knew her.
She is predeceased by her brother, Billy Bone, brother, Dan C. Box Jr. and sister, Jackie Sewell. She leaves behind her son, Michael (Nannette) Lusk Jr. of Wesson; daughter, Stacye Lusk (Tom) Hughes of Fernandina Beach; step daughters, Andrea (Trey) Gusler and Beth Rickmon of New Orleans; grandson, Anthony Lusk; step grandchildren, Woody, Gavin, and Evelyn Gusler, Brittany and Alicia Rickmon and Andrew Stauder.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov 16, 2024 at 11:30 at the Wesson MS cemetery. A celebration of life will be held after the New Year in Fernandina Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jane and Bill Warner Center for Caring at 1348 South 18th Street Bldg B, Suite 101, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
