What a loving compassionate friend. She was a prayer warrior. Lifting others up to the Lord for healing, strength, peace, encouragement or any other need perceived or asked of her. Her faith was a guiding light shining forth God's love to others. I am truly blessed to have known Bobbi and to be counted as one of her friends. My favorite memory of her is leading the processional at church proudly bearing the crucifix at age 95. It is an image I will never forget. Thank you for your service and for touching our lives, Bobbi.

Barbara (Bobbi) Souder Fowle.
2023-04-02
Barbara (Bobbi) Souder Fowle (born 1926) lived a life of love and service. She went to Agnes Irwin School and Oldfields School where she excelled academically and was a talented competitor on the hockey field. She developed friendships in her childhood that she maintained for her entire life. She married George Fowle in 1948 and was devoted to him until he passed away in 2009. They had 3 daughters: Julie Fowle Parsons, Katharine Fowle Griswold and Mary Fowle Dashiell. They had 7 grandchildren: Katharine Petzold, Jon Parsons, Lisa Robbins, Caroline Short, Carly Dashiell, Kate Peruyero and Elizabeth Dashiell. In addition they had 9 great-grandchildren.
Without a role model, having lost her own mother at an early age, she instinctively knew how to be a loving and supportive mother and grandmother who forged special relationships with each member of her family, and prayed for them daily. She was a substitute mom for any ‘stray’ friends they had. Each of her children and grandchildren would say that she delighted in their successes, held them in their painful times, appreciated their unique gifts, and was their best audience and biggest fan.
Bobbi was a true Christian and was guided in all things by her belief in her savior, Jesus Christ. She lived her commitment to serving others. Prayer was her super power. She had a bumper sticker that read “God Bless Everyone, No Exceptions.” She lived authentically by that belief treating all others with respect, acceptance and instant affection. She loved all living things and was in awe of the beauty of nature.
She was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Fernandina until the day she died, participating in many of their spiritual, intellectual and volunteer opportunities. The loving, vibrant community of St. Peters, sustained and nourished her on her spiritual journey for over 25 years. She was known for remembering everything about everyone in the parish and bringing a searching mind and a life-long passion for learning to all the study groups.
For all her gentleness, Bobbi was also feisty and strong-minded. She played sports, biked until she was 95 (“use it or lose it”), insisted on hobbling on her bad knees to get to church or to minister to a friend, and would fiercely advocate for anyone being mistreated.
She died peacefully on April 2, 2023 with her 3 daughters by her bedside. All who knew her treasured her and were inspired by her.
The Celebration of Life Service for our beloved Bobbi will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Saturday May 13th at 11:00am with a luncheon to follow in the parish hall.
